After 5 years I have decided to end Sketchy Johto prematurely. The remaining plot will be summarized in the next couple of updates. Below I have expanded on my reasoning for this decision.

I’ve always considered myself a writer before an artist, and Sketchy Johto (SJ) was my first real attempt at writing. I wrote it initially in middle school, but in 10th grade I reworked the plot, bought a tablet, and began posting the redraw on DA. In the years that followed, both my drawing and writing skills improved, but while better drawing was a positive, as the years went on I found the plot and characters concocted in middle school falling below my current abilities. When I read the script now, all I see is bad dialogue and poor plot progression, and coupled with college and my job, I don’t have the time or will to pour hours into something subpar. I’ve rewritten SJ too much to rework everything again, and I feel that I should spend time improving my writing skills for a career rather than trying to bring old WIP’s with 200+ paged scripts up to my current level.

Having said that, it’s not fair for me to drop the project after you all have been invested in it for years, so the next few updates will be sketched/text hybrids summing up the remaining plot to bring the comic to its conclusion.

I know this is disappointing to hear, and you have every right to be upset, but I hope you can understand my reasoning and that my updates can still provide a somewhat satisfactory conclusion for you.

Finally, even though SJ is ending, I want to thank everyone for their support over the years. DA was the first social platform I got (better 10th grade than never, haha), and coming out to post this weird little fanfiction was a HUGE deal for me. I was terrified of being ridiculed by the big, scary internet people, but instead, I found a close-knit community of fellow Pokémon fans whose comments and encouragement helped boost my confidence and were a major factor in me pursuing a major in creative writing. I went to a small school where there wasn’t a lot of people into what I liked (my graduating class was 12 students, the class below me was 4) so having people enjoy my work and being able to read theirs was something I’d never had before and really helped me get through some rough patches in my life. So thank you all! Your support changed my career more than you know.
